Reflect on research step
I was surprised at the money a bit. I thought Public Relations Specialist made more than that, but after speaking to the agencies that I was in contact with I was reassured that it really all depends on what kind of PR you do that will determine how much you earn.
I expected to that Public Relations Specialists worked long hours, and that there was an extreme competitiveness to get into this field. I pretty much expected all the information that was reiterated back to me from the professionals. It was only that pay that took me by surprise.
Everyone I spoke to was very enthusiastic. You could tell immediately that everyone I spoke to really enjoyed their job. There was always a big emphasis that this field particularly was for the young and energetic and I really liked that vibe. Everyone was very positive and very encouraging.
Reflect on the selection step
I selected the John H. Johnson School of communications at Howard University as my graduate school of choice, and WPR (Wilson Public Relations), as well as the Essence Magazine Internship as one of my final 3 choices. The criteria that I went by was:
The presence of the challenge makes me admire those in this field even more, so no my career direction hasn't changed its actually had the contrary affect; I love it all even more now.
It's all very important to me so that I can build a stronger clientele. Because of the preferred location I'll know more people and places that I can successfully pitch my business, and the high matriculation rates are important because I know that my proficiency of all things importnat (technology specifically) will be extremely competitive no matter where I go. That's what's most important about all my criteria; I need to be competitive.
Reflect on the design step
I hope so. It was my intent for my page to be informational. Hoping that by me engaging in my own personal research would help some other college student who may be looking for anything I many have come across.
I just wanted to show the basics with the images. It was a little more difficult to find images portraying stats of companies and things because so much of it would have been repetitive because it's all there on the links provided. So my images provided were just so you could see what I was talking about. More of a visual aid than anything else.
Because my intended audience is for fellow college students the mood isn't serious. It's all about providing some fun and interesting fact and avenues about Public Relations. If it would have been for another audience it never would've been pink or anything like that. But I figured in order for students to really feel engaged it needed a less abrasive or serious tone.
I think it enhances the tone in which I intended it to have. I wanted this page to be fun to look at, I didn't want anyone to fall asleep while reading and navigating through my page so I picked the colors that I did with the intention to be bright, vibrant, and interesting.
Reflect on the implementation step
None at all.
I thought it was pretty clear. I thought FrontPage was easy to use because after learning how to make the page you just implement the skills. I just didn't find it to be all that difficult at all.
I'd add more informational graphics, given I could find enough information in order to create one or simply find one outside of the links provided on the site already.
No, no has critiqued my page as of yet... so I hope that as the first you enjoyed yourself!
Final Reflection
This whole process was interesting to say the least. It proved to be difficult because I wasn't sure what to all put in this page. Trying to decide what is vital versus trivial was very tedious and time consuming. Above all I did learn a lot about my chosen career path. I learned that in the field of PR computer and your proficiency of them is vital to your success. Knowing your database applications/programs will ultimately advance how quickly you rise in progress and status in this particular field.
Above all I did learn how dependent the field of PR is on technology, in fact I think it's safe to say that computers, PDA's, and other advance forms of technology are the reason PR is able to be ran so efficiently.
